La Paz, BCS – Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío announced that Baja California Sur will join other states in banning narcocorridos, a musical subgenre that has been criticized for glorifying violence and organized crime.

"Yes, I think we're going to follow the tone most states in the country are proposing: not to exalt or make an ode to narcocorridos. We're not here for that; the difficulty is enormous," declared the state leader.

Although it was not specified whether a formal initiative will be sent to the State Congress or what type of sanctions would be applied, the governor made it clear that the measure will be implemented, at least from the executive level.

With this stance, Baja California Sur is poised to join entities such as Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Baja California and Nayarit, which have already imposed restrictions on the performance of narcocorridos in public spaces, even imposing million-dollar fines on artists for promoting lyrics that glorify crime.

The decision comes amid recent violent events in the state, which has led authorities to take measures to ensure public peace.
