La Paz, BCS.– The governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío , announced this Monday an emergency water supply plan to address the effects of the severe drought affecting the state, particularly in the municipalities of Mulegé, Comondú and La Paz.
During his working tour of communities in the north of the state, the state leader announced that they will intensify efforts to drill new wells, rehabilitate pumping systems, and distribute water using pipelines in rural areas where water tables have dropped critically.
Castro Cosío stated that more than 160 million pesos will be allocated in conjunction with the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the Ministry of the Interior, as part of a water emergency declaration requested by the state.
"The priority is to guarantee access to water for the population, protect primary productive activities, and prevent social conflicts in affected communities ," the governor emphasized during his visit to the community of San Bruno.
The state government will also launch an awareness campaign on rational water use, targeting both urban and rural residents, and will strengthen inspection teams to prevent illegal tapping and waste.
The initial results of this program are expected to be reflected in the coming weeks, while a comprehensive medium- and long-term plan is being prepared to strengthen Baja California Sur's water resilience.
