La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). El Coromuel, Balandra I, and II beaches received Platinum certification, and El Saltito was also incorporated into this important environmental certification scheme, granted by the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification (IMNC).
They noted that Platinum certification is the highest national recognition for beaches that meet rigorous criteria of cleanliness, safety, sustainability, infrastructure and environmental education .
"Its achievement reflects the coordinated work between the municipal government, environmental institutions, civil society, and tourism service providers," emphasized La Paz Mayor Milena Quiroga Romero.
For her part, Natalia Ruffo Castaño, head of Municipal Tourism, stated that Balandra Beach is a conservation landmark, home to mangroves, reefs, dunes, and seagrass beds, a habitat of great biodiversity. Its recertification reaffirms its role as a symbol of responsible tourism.
Likewise, it was highlighted that the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) is implementing cleanup and active surveillance plans, and 27 workers from this municipal agency were recognized for their exemplary work in beach care.
Finally, Luis Eduardo Alarcón Núñez, representative of the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification (IMNC), said that this recertification promotes sustainable tourism in La Paz, which is key to regional economic development and the conservation of natural resources in the municipality.
