Students from the La Paz Institute of Technology developed a mobile app that allows users to report the presence of sargassum on the state's coasts.
"SargaTrack" is the name of the app that geolocates and classifies areas affected by sargassum. The project was created by Systems Engineering students and aims to provide useful information to both tourists and authorities.
The app will be available on iOS and Android operating systems, providing details about the arrival of sargassum on the beaches of Quintana Roo. It will be perfect for those looking to relax on the sand, as this information will provide them with information on the status of each coast.
According to Esteban Amaro Mauricio, a hydrobiologist and coordinator of the Network, the application is currently in the testing phase and will disseminate satellite information, daily photographs from the Monitoring Network, and others shared by users.
Regarding the progress of the application's development, Amaro reported that it is 80% complete, and the only areas where they have encountered problems are in the "link to the satellite and the image pixels with the automatic prediction system." It is expected to be available to users starting in October of this year.
The app is currently in the testing phase and will be submitted to the state Tourism Secretariat for possible implementation.
